Happy 4th, Yo!

I'd really have to search to find anything to complain about on this day. Great weather, a parade, the free Yo La Tengo concert...what else could you want? After putting together Cal's new crib (he moved into his new room this weekend), we checked out the Ridgefield Park Independence Day parade. And, much as the Saddle Brook fireworks surprisingly impressed, so did the RP holiday parade. Home-made floats, marching vets, local politicos, and an octogenarian Grand Marshall who appeared to nod off during the last few minutes. And lots of cannon blasts. Classic.
In the afternoon we headed out to Battery Park for the big show. It ended up being way more crowded than last year's Lyle Lovett show, and we were forced to make camp on the outside fringes of the park, but Cal made friends and we found a spot with pretty good sound. True to form, Yo La Tengo stepped up to the plate and delivered on the big stage, driving home a furious, spastic, chilled set list that included We're an American Band, Autumn Sweater, Sheena is a Punk Rocker, Cherry Chapstick, Little Eyes, Tom Courtenay, Stockholm Syndrome, Our Way to Fall, From a Motel 6, and You Can Have it All.
