Apple Picking and Pumpkins

Here's a hint if you ever go apple picking at Demarest Farms - go all the way to the back to get the goods. You can skip those first few trees after the pumpkin patch. It really isn't worth climbing to the top of the first ten rows of trees. Trust me. Cal can vouch for my story. Speaking of Cal, he proved to be vert adept at picking the fruit from his perch on my shoulders. He needs to work on the transfer process, though, because three out of every four apples he grabbed hit my head about 3/4 of a second after he would say "here, daddy." Margaret managed to sleep through the whole thing...the hay ride, the pumpkin patch, the apples, the sugar donuts...everything.

Cal provided the highlight moment on the day after falling into a pile of mushy apples under a tree. Standing up and surveying the sticky mess on his pants and shirt he looked at us and said "applesauce."

PS - If any of you kind readers happen to subscribe to the New York Times and would like to help me register for the online site, I would be much obliged. They make you pay to read the Op-Ed and most of the columnists now, but they give you a password if you get any kind of home delivery. E-mail me if you can help a brother out.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us I'm pretty sure most of the apples in this picture eventually hit me in the head.
